Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Latest Single “Never Go Back”

Vermont exported one of their greatest talents in 2005 when Grace Potter and the Nocturnals released their debut album Nothing But the Water. Since then Ms. Potter and her motley crew has put out three studio albums and three studio records. Come June 12th they will be releasing their fourth studio record The Lion the Beast the Beat. Recently they released the first single from the album entitled “Never Go Back”

“Never Go Back” is a groove centered track which starts out with what sounds like a programed drum loop. This leads into a very tight bass line which is doubled by the guitar. It also features an odd sounding guitar part that sounds like an e-bow mixed with a slide. The verse comes in next and brings a very soft feel to the song. Eventually we hit the chorus in which the keyboards and an edgier sounding guitar are added in. The chorus is followed by a short but sweet guitar solo, which leads into another verse and chorus. This chorus leads into a very cool guitar solo/ bridge section that takes the listener back to the days of psychedelic rock, because of the guitar tracks shifting in and out.

“Never Go Back” is a great song with a vintage feel. Be sure to check the track out when the album The Lion the Beast the Beat comes out on June 12th.

  1. Agreed about the something retro. It’s almost like they climbed out of the late 60’s/early 70’s into the 21st century.

Another awesome recommendation, they sound super cool! Love the vocals and the whole feel of it, there’s something retro about it. Love it. Thank you! 🙂
