Massachusetts metal act Shadows Fall have been in the studio with Killswitch Engage’s Adam Dutkiewicz working diligently on their next record, Fire From the Sky which will be released May 15th via Razor and Tie records. It will be their seventh studio record and the follow up to their amazing 2009 release, Retribution. Recently they’ve released the title track from the record entitled “Fire From the Sky”.
When digging in to the track “Fire From the Sky” you can definitely tell it’s a Shadows Fall song, but you also can tell it’s a Dutkiewicz production. Dutkiewicz manages somehow to get all the instruments to breather within the song, without making the mix feel over crowded or compressed. The song features stong performances by all members, especially drummer Jason Bittner, whom manages to keep time while keeping the drums interesting. Guitarists Matt Bachand and Jon Donais also put in great performances that are reminiscent of early thrash mixed with contemporary metal sounds. Paul Romanko’s bass parts also stand out, but could be up in the mix a little bit. Lead vocalist Brian Fair puts in a vocal performance that is a lot darker than previous Shadows Fall material, but when the chorus kicks in you get that familiar melodic voice.
“Fire From the Sky” is a great track that I hope every metal listener gets a chance to take in. It encompasses everything that should be in a great metal song: great guitars, great vocals, and a killer rhythm section. Check this track out when their record hits stores May 15th.
